On the radio, uh-oh!

So, Ive been in NY a little over three weeks now and absolutely no posts! I’m going to put that down to sheer time issues. Now, Ive screwed it all up because I have so much to convey – its doubtful that I’ll get it all across.

I started my internship with WPLJ – on Scott and Todd in the Morning, one of the highest (if not the top) rated programmes on NY radio. Despite my complete and utter terror on the first morning, the experience is unbelieveable. “The Big Show”, as its called, is so professional and laid back. It’s very obvious that the guys involved in the show have been doing this for a long time – and certainly know what they’re doing. We get tons of calls on a daily basis from people who really connect with something the DJs have just said on air! The music is great, the talk is hilarious and the entertainment is really top class.

I work with two other interns – Matt and Jenny. They really make things even more fun at 4am. Its good to have people who are in the same boat. Esp when we’re answering phones for a contest and one of us panics – spells a name wrong, loses a phone line or just doesnt know the answer to the question asked! We get a bit of hands on training in the editing suite as well – which is more than I expected!
Plus, obviously, its an exciting place to work. Celebrities call in on a daily basis, sometimes we have free food in the mornings, and yesterday there was a live audience in the studio – which is always entertaining! I also like it when they talk about the interns on air…as long as its not to slag us for doing something wrong!

I definitely have a new found appreciation for morning radio. The show runs from 6am-10am daily, and these guys really help NY get up and going in the morning!
