I was doing one of those stupid myspace surveys on my experiences in 2007 a few moments ago and it actually got me thinking about the year and how much has happened! When the new year rolls around I think we tend to take it for granted and the pointless little survey actually served to help me appreciate how good last year really was. It also reminded me of how fucked up it was as well. The good news is, things have changed this year and for the better. Here’s a brief summary!
January:
- rung in the New Year in a tiny pub in the back arse of Galway with Taryn. It was her 21st and we were all merrily drinking and dancing around the place at midnight. The DJ was ATROCIOUS…but it didnt matter in the slightest. Probably one of the best moments of the year for me. However, no midnight kiss! I must confess, I have yet to experience the coveted midnight kiss!
- I was in New York with 39 other drama heads at the end of that month and had a blast! Couldn’t drink at the time so I spent lots of money on shopping
- Met someone new who gave me a different perspective on life and on relationships. I tried something very new.
February:
- We held auditions for the Full Monty and cast the show!
- I went to a BBL2 hospital party as a Janitor n’ had a great night!
- Made the mistake of complicating things with a friend of mine and an ex. The phrase “chicks before dicks” didnt apply. This was one of my biggest regrets of 2007.
- Got a light bulb as a Valentine’s Day present. Random. But spent Valentines Day at the Rag Ball not having a very good time!
March:
- Showed up at the Casino Ball and performed “All That Jazz” in my knickers along with some other drama girls. Was so wrecked from musical stuff that I went home n’ slept afterwards!
- Sold out the Space in the Helix with “The Vagina Monologues”. One of the most rewarding nights of my life. Got to say the sentence “turns out Bob loved Vaginas” to a packed house. ha.
-Directed my first college video project
- Directed, shot and edited a Full Monty ad for the City Channel. Was in Dunnes and had a woman tell me she’d seen it on TV! Needless to say I was slightly excited!
- Realised that the person I’d been dating was on a totally different page than I was and ended things with him. In the process I locked myself out of my apartment, TWICE. Smooth.
- Went to the Irish Student Drama Awards in Belfast only to end up staying in the coldest, creepiest hostel ever. I also realised that Belfast is not the best place to be on Paddy’s Day weekend. Another thing learned: UCD Dram Soc are knob-heads.
- I went to another BBL2 party and had the stupidest night of my year! Woke up the next day having lost my dignity and had most of my friends worry about my sanity
April:
- The Full Monty opens in the Helix – and an opening night a lighting mistake showcases some of DCU Dramas most talented members haha
- My sister comes over from NY to see my debut as a musical producer! God its nice to have fans
- We have a big cast party in a mansion on the south side – complete with tennis courts and expensive looking antiques.
- On closing night – I got to sit in the front row and watch the show. This was probably my proudest moment of the year. Months and months of depression, stress, hard work and numerous dead ends had finally come together in some sort of result. The show was absolutely amazing and I was SO proud of everyone involved in it. I couldn’t believe how professional it was! The best moment that night was during the final dance – Alan McHale spotted me in the audience and caught my eye during the song. For some reason, it felt good to know that the cast knew I was watching.
- That proud moment was closely followed by another the next week when we won Best Event at the DCU Clubs and Societies Awards. Me and Alan were ecstatic!
- Although I was happy to have the show completed – I had lost alot of friends along the way and April was the month when I realised that I had alot of changing to do in order to regain people’s respect. The truth hurts.
- I had an amazing night in Galway at the BICs. Although we didnt win there, just being there and dancing with all the DCU heads was brilliant! On the road trip down to Galway I had the best laugh with Mark, Alan, Yvonne and Susan!
- I sang “Out Tonight” in the Variety Show dressed as Mimi Marques!
- Got a DCU Annual Drama Award for Best Producer along with my “cobra juicer” Al Keegan! Cried my eyes out along with everyone else at a very emotional awards ceremony.
- Almost got crushed to death by people wanting to see the Venga Boys at the Summer Ball! Lost a flip flop and had my glasses stamped on! ha

May:
- Went to Laura Aspil’s 21st and cheered like a groupie for Checkpoint Charlie
- Was officially going out with my ex again – and we were fighting like troopers…again.
- Went out for Susan’s 21st to Captain Americas
- Kara and Matt arrived from Colorado in order to usher in the Summer of fun that was about to occur!
- Got the job at Karen Millen – despite looking like an old woman for the interview and trying to pretend I was stylish.
- Went to the final BBL2 party of the year (a toga soiree!) and got my picture placed in the first row of the wall
Epic!
June:
- Started working part time in Karen Millen, while also working part time in the call centre. This proved pretty difficult! I was going from one place to the other all the time. A slightly confusing decision doing both!
- Moved into the house at Windy Arbour with Taryn, Matt and Kara. At some point Dave moved in too and started sleeping on a matress in the sitting room.
- I learned the joys of taking the Luas to work.
- I began to pay my own rent. Dear god, its hard.
- I said goodbye to my ex, who went to America for the summer. We were broken up by the time July hit. This sounds like a bad thing – but in retrospect it was a good move for both of us.
- Went to see Justin Timberlake at the RDS with Kara as part of a 21st birthday present from Taryn’s ex! RANDOM. Fun Day though
July: (busy busy month)
- Went to Oxegen with James and experienced something completely sureal. Was soaked and covered in mud, but got sunburned at the same time. Saw drunk, drugged up people up close and personal and it wasn’t pretty. Ate the crappest, most expensive food on the planet. Saw some amazing acts live. Special mention goes to Daft Punk who totally made my weekend!
Met Kate randomly in the teeny little Jason Mraz tent. Got stuck in the car park in the mud and didnt leave until like 3 in the morning. Thought I was in work at 12 – but it turns out I was in for 9. Had to rush in on like 2 hours sleep. Everyone in work made fun of my legs scarred with “welly slap”. Fun times.
- Went to Steve’s 20th in Skerries and sang ridiculous karaoke before falling asleep in a closet.
- Went out for Kara’s birthday and almost got arrested on O’Connell street.
- Went camping for a night on Clare Island with the BBL2 boys. It rained like cats and dogs and we were freezing and soaked. Thank god for alcohol. The night was BEYOND hilarious.
- Got the seventh Harry potter and read it as quickly as possible. I had predicted some of the stuff. I was relatively satisfied with the way it ended – although I wanted it to be darker. The epilogue almost made me throw up a little it was that bad.
- Had my Tropical 21st with Kara. Loads of people came to the house in Windy Arbour which was decorated all Hawaiian. We even had a palm tree made out of a traffic cone! Safe to say I was very drunk. Special mention goes to our paddling pool with ice water and cans in it! Still don’t know who my 21st kiss was!
- Ended up fighting with one of my good friends and sent him home. I also managed to break my laptop screen. My dad was not amused in any way shape or form.
- Went to Q Bar and Coppers for my actual 21st. Wore a crown saying “21″ on it and as a result recieved about 90 birthday kisses. Fun!
